MCC Return to Learn Plan for 2021-2022 School Year
Dear MCC School Family,
MCC is working on a Return to Learn plan based on data and input from District Health Department #10, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and West Shore Superintendents Association.
All mitigation strategies are dependent on transmission rate of COVID-19.
If cases go up in the County, School District, and/or School Building then mitigation strategies will be implemented based on the circumstances and the data.
Our current plan for low-level transmission rates would include the following:
- Vaccinations are not going to be required by staff or students, unless of course mandated by the state or otherwise.
- However, vaccinations for those who are eligible is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED.
- Testing of athletes will not be required unless mandated by the local or state agency or the sanctioning body, which is the Michigan High School Athletic Association.
- Facial coverings will not be required unless mandated by a local or state agency and/or sanctioning body, or if transmission level requires them.
- However, masking IS required for all on buses per CDC order.
- COVID testing will not be required unless mandated by local or state agency and/or sanctioning body.
- Spartan Connected, our Virtual option will continue to be available to students in sixth through 12th grades.
- Daily attendance is required of all online students… this is different than last year.
- And past success or failure in virtual classes is a determining factor for eligibility… also different from last year.
- For elementary students we are not offering formal virtual instruction. If there is a need for elementary virtual we can handle it on a case by case basis.
- This will not be the same as last year as these classes will be taught by certified teachers through the GenNet system with an MCC mentor.
- If we do have a large influx, then we can pivot back to how we provided Spartan Connected last year.
So, as it stands right now… we feel confident that the 2021-2022 school year will be much better than last year… but there are still going to be challenges that we must work together to overcome. We will need to remain flexible and fluid as we have in the past year+ .
We may not always agree with when, where and how mitigation strategies are required and/or implemented to protect our students and staff… but know this… We are all Spartans… We are all Americans… and the Mason County Central School District will do everything it can to provide a safe, healthy and robust learning experience for our students... your children. We love each and every one of our students and look forward to seeing them at the start of the 2021-22 school year.
We will continue to keep the MCC School Family updated as we approach the start of the year. Stay tuned on this App or on the District Website as further announcements and updates will be forthcoming.
