Dear Students and Families:
We are contacting you regarding student health and safety as it relates to the Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. Educational partners within the counties that make-up West Shore Educational Service District and surrounding areas continue to work together in collaboration with the state government, the Michigan Department of Education, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and District Health Department #10 regarding this issue. We will continue to collaborate and closely monitor this situation including following the guidance from medical and governmental authorities regarding taking appropriate measures for COVID-19.
As you are probably aware, on Wednesday, March 11, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and County Health Departments announced the first confirmed cases of the virus in the state.
The safety, health, and well-being of our students, staff and the school community continue to be our priority. At this time, we are collectively implementing the following measures as recommended by the MDHHS.
- Educating students and the community about COVID-19 and preventative hygiene practices.
- Encouraging staff and students to stay home when sick.
- Reporting influenza-like activity, absenteeism, and potential school dismissals to public health officials.
- Separating sick students and staff from others until they can go home.
- Communicating and reinforcing best practices for washing hands and covering coughs and sneezes.
- Regularly cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces
- Limiting large gatherings – the health officials have currently recommended events larger than 100,
- Altering schedules to reduce the mixing of large numbers of students and staff when possible.
- Reviewing and revising emergency procedures to include the most updated information on COVID-19
The Mason County Central School District and our neighbors will continue to keep you updated as new information and guidance become available.
