MCC Family,
Happy January to all of the parents and students of Mason County Central High School. Now that we have settled in after the Holidays we are now over halfway through the school year. In the short term, this means that we are halfway through the 2nd trimester. Because of this our seniors only have a few months to go before graduation. This newsletter will serve as an update on all things related to this time of the year.
Parent/Teacher conferences will be this week on Thursday, January, 26th from 3:30-6:30 pm at the high school. You also can email or call teachers all week long to communicate and get updates on their progress if you cannot make in-person conferences.
MCC is holding our second of three blood drives this year in partnership with Versiti. This one is being held on Friday, February 3rd. Please think about donating to save a life!
One of the greatest points of pride at MCC is the programs that we offer to our students. If your child is not involved in one of our athletic teams, clubs or, organizations please encourage them to do so. We offer 13 varsity sports along with Forensics, Drama, Robotics Quiz Bowl, and a Language Arts team. This is in addition to classes that are offered like band and choir. We offer all of these as a way to provide students with the opportunity to be a part of a team and be a part of something bigger than themselves. Try any of these opportunities out to have a lot of fun and represent the Spartans!
Our school improvement team is working on implementing a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program into advisory next year. Our elementary buildings and middle school have started this process and the high school will be carrying it on. We will incorporate this into the Spartan Way employability skills program. Our staff believes in strong emotional support and the teaching of coping skills for the stressors of teenage life. We are here to help our students in this manner as well as teach academic curricula.
FAFSA completion is amazingly important for college-bound seniors. FAFSA is the Fres Application for Student Aid. Without this, you may not be able to get financial aid for college. Thankfully, Mrs. Vidak, our guidance counselor in conjunction if WSCC and others hold FAFSA completion nights at MCC. The next one is on February 16th at 3:30 pm If you have any questions you can contact Mrs. Vidak. Do your best to not procrastinate and use this service to help your college-bound student.
Lastly, our seniors will have a meeting on February 1st with important graduation information along with the waiver to reduce their schedule if they have gained enough credit. This meeting is extremely important to get all the necessary information before graduation in May. Reminders for this meeting will be sent out to seniors later this week.
