MCC Family,
We are rolling into October which means we are one month into the school year. Things happen fast in the world of education and this month has flown by. October is sure to be a quick month, also, as we will celebrate the most fun week of the year, Spirit Week and Homecoming.
Spirit Week is the week of Oct. 7th. As usual, the student council has several activities to celebrate. Each day of the week will be a dress-up day for students. We will have our fine MCC tradition of Farmer Day with a tractor parade and of course, Friday of that week will be Blue and Gold Day. We will have MCC app, Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) updates with all activities, days and times. It is a great week to celebrate MCC and our alumni!
Last Friday we had an ice cream social sponsored by House of Flavors for students who qualified with positive attendance for the month. Remember that students should attend school regularly and showing up is Job #1. Research shows that attending school has positive effects on academic performance, good social-emotional health, and physical health as well. Being chronically absent has negative effects on the factors that were just listed. We want to see our students every day in school. Our school is a great place to be.
On Oct. 10th our students and staff will welcome members of McFarland USA for an assembly. Topics addressed are drugs and alcohol, staying in school, violence in the home and life stories. We feel this will be very beneficial to our students. There was a movie made about our visitors and you can view the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-VAOlHGE6Q
The fall PSAT is coming very soon. Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will take the PSAT on Wednesday, Oct. 16th. We will be conducting a digital readiness check as the PSAT is now all digital and students take the test on their Chromebooks. More updates will come via our app, social media and an automated phone call.
Did you know?
MCC Esports is undefeated and continuing competition in our first season.
The Fall Drama production is “Romeo and Juliet” and will be directed by Ms. Moore.
The first-trimester parent/teacher conferences will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 16th from 3:30-6:30
The week of Oct. 28th will be Xello week. Students will work in Xello to complete lessons on career exploration.
Speaking of career exploration, our Juniors attended WSCC’s college/career fair last week.
As noted above homecoming is coming up soon. At halftime of our football game vs. Hesperia, make sure you stick around to see the crowing of our King and Queen and also the marching band’s halftime show “Shine Bright Like a Diamond.”
Spartans of the Month will be awarded this week and winners will be announced in our next newsletter.
It’s been a good month and let’s make October even better than September! Go, Spartans!
