MCC Family,
The 2024-25 school year begins on Tuesday, September 3rd. School activities have already begun and we are ready and excited for a new school year. The staff at MCCHS is eager to see all of our students once again. Please read this newsletter as an update concerning the first day of school and also some very important new information for the school year.
The first day of school is a half-day. School begins at 8:25am and students are allowed in the building at 8:15. The students will report to their advisory (their advisory teacher is on their schedule) as that is how we will begin our day. Students will be informed of the structure of our ½ day in their advisory classroom. Dismissal will be at 11:30am. Bag lunches will be available. Wednesday is the first full day and the first day of CTE classes. All regular school days begin at 8:25 and end at 3:13pm. Please make sure that all students have their Chromebooks and that they are charged on the first day and every day. Students that have Mr. Sanders for advisory will be in the cafeteria at that morning. Students that have CTE will be in the advisory that is in the library. After advisory periods we will have abbreviated 1st through 5th hour classes.
At MCC and around the region, schools are paying special attention to chronic absenteeism. Being in school every day is crucially important to educational success. Showing up is Job #1! Just 10% of school days (two days per month) will negatively impact learning. Please have your child attend school every day unless illness will not allow them to be here. We also need phone calls into our office to let us know that a student is sick and will not be attending that day. There are rewards in place for our students who attend regularly and our biggest and most popular reward is Long-Lunch Friday. Let us do this together! Showing up is Job #1 in school, work and life!
There are some new supports in place for students at MCC this year. Our Spartan Way program has changed to eliminate some older things and has now added an emphasis on the 3 A’s, Attitude, Attendance, and Academics. Student in their advisory classes will do weekly tracking of those three things as they meet individually with their advisors. In addition, we are adding a math lab as a tier 2 support for students who need extra help. Mr. Briggs and our Title 1 Instructional Assistant, Mrs. Gauthier will be in the math lab. Ask your child about The Spartan Way 3 A’s and their progress in the program. We want all of our students to earn long-lunch Friday for the 2nd Trimester and for our seniors to get their employability letter at graduation. We also have added a Freshman Orientation class that all freshmen have on their schedule for the 1st trimester. This will aid our freshmen in learning high school life, social-emotional learning, school pride and more. Mrs. Chye will be teaching this class. We are thrilled to offer it.

The MCC Cross-Country Teams competed in Wisconsin this week and traveled on the SS Badger. This is an annual experience for our team.
A new Esports club has been started at MCC. Other local schools and schools state-wide have had this team and we are glad to add it. Some of our students that do not participate in any extracurricular activities now compete for the Spartans and apart of something enjoyable. There are college scholarships for Esports much like academics and athletics.
Football and Volleyball competitions have started this fall.
We have a new display in our lobby. The Mason County Sports Hall of Fame has donated an interactive kiosk that shows all of the Hall of Fame inductees. It also has every award winner that they have selected yearly. Come check it out!
We have some new staff members that we would like to welcome. They are;
Mr. Ryan Bennetts-Spartan Academy Instructional Assistant
Mr. Nick McKenney- Library/Online Learning
Mrs. Cheryl O’Connor-Social Studies Teacher
Ms. Emily Merten- Post-Secondary Advisor
We are fired up to see our students once again! Have a great Labor Day weekend, Spartans!
