MCC Family,
With the frequent snow days that have piled up on us here in the last two weeks, it is easily overlooked that we are about halfway through the 2nd trimester of the school year. That also means that we are halfway through the school year for 2023-2024. It goes extremely quickly. This newsletter will serve as your monthly updates at MCC High School for January going into February.
For seniors and their families we are holding a FAFSA completion night in our library with Mrs. Vidak, our guidance counselor along with representatives from West Shore Community College’s Financial Aid Office will be on hand to assist parents. It is helpful to bring your 2022 tax returns with you. FAFSA completion night is Monday, January 22nd from 3:30-6:30 in the high school library. This is very beneficial to you and your graduating senior. We love to offer this and make life easier for the whole family by offering this support.
Parent/teacher conferences are next Thursday, January 25th. Conferences run from 3:30pm-6:30pm. Please come see our teachers and talk about your child’s progress in 2nd trimester classes.
In our high school, we have an employability skills program called “The Spartan Way.” The five skills that students work to exemplify are Communication, collaboration/community involvement, ethical citizenship, flexibility/adaptability, and personal accountability. A problem that we have is that we feel that the students are only working toward meeting the criteria of the program to get their short-term reward which is an hour-long lunch on Fridays. However, the big and long-term reward is an officially sealed and credentialed letter when the students graduate that deems the students as employable. Our community is looking for employable people who possess these skills. They require no education or certification. They are skills anyone can do. Please talk to your child and express the importance of having these skills for their future. It is a great program that allows MCC kids to show that they are ready for the workforce.
