 A Message from the Principal....

Greetings everyone! It feels as if Spring may have finally arrived!  Along with Spring comes many exciting activities at Scottville Elementary.  As we approach the end of the school year, we’re beginning our end of the year assessments.  These assessments will provide student growth data for your child(ren) since the beginning of the school year.  We also have grade level field trips coming up. Our Kindergarten will be heading to Sandcastles and the Marina Playground, First grade is heading to the State Park and our Second grade students are heading to Mac Dunes - Silver Lake Sand Dunes. Please watch for communication to come home soon providing specifics for these trips.  Our last day of school will be a half day for students on June 8th. We’ll have our end of the year picnic that day along with a bounce house and games for the students. Release time will be 11:20 for Scottville Elementary students.

Each year we have parents ask what they can do to support learning over the summer.  There are a couple of suggestions we can offer. You can talk with your child’s teacher at the end of the year to find out what they might suggest for Reading and Math.  They will have very recent assessment data and will be able to give you some excellent suggestions. One recommendation is to get in touch with our local library. Both Scottville and Ludington libraries offer some excellent summer programs to enhance reading skills during the summer months.

I met recently with our playground staff to discuss safety planning and to brainstorm ideas for improving recess for our students.  One of the ideas that was discussed was to add more organized activities for the children this fall. In order to do so, we’ll need to add sports equipment, jump ropes and other items to our playground equipment. As you go through old sports gear or other items your child(ren) have outgrown, please consider donating it to Scottville Elementary and we’ll add it to our equipment shed.  Donations can be dropped off in the office anytime. Your support is much appreciated!

Along the lines of safety, I need to remind everyone that comes to pick their child(ren) up at the end of the day not to use the west parking lot by the kindergarten classrooms.  We have children exiting that end of the building and any vehicles driving through other than our buses and Dial-A-Ride present a safety concern. Please park on the road or in the east lot instead.

On behalf of the Scottville Elementary Staff, I would like to sincerely thank you for your support both at home and at school.  We’re very blessed to have each of you and your children as part of our Scottville Elementary family! It’s our hope that you have a wonderful summer filled with many family memories.  We look forward to seeing many of you again in the fall. We wish the best for our families moving onto the Upper Elementary and look forward to meeting our new families coming into Kindergarten.
