Scottville Elementary News

A message from the Principal...

Greetings everyone! It feels as if Spring may have finally arrived! Along with Spring comes many exciting activities at Scottville Elementary.  As we approach the end of the school year, we’re beginning our end of the year assessments.  These assessments will provide student growth data for your child(ren) since the beginning of the school year.

We also have grade level field trips coming up.  Our Kindergarten will be heading to Sandcastles and the Marina Playground on May 26th, first grade is heading to the State Park on June 2nd and our second-grade students are heading to Mac Woods Dune Rides at Silver Lake on June 7th. Along with these field trips may come opportunities for parents to chaperone. Please watch for communication to come home soon providing specifics for these trips.

Our last day of school for students will be a half-day for students. We will have our end of the year picnic that day along with bounce houses and games for the students. Release time will be 11:20 am for Scottville Elementary.

Each year we have parents ask what they can do to support learning over the summer.  There are a couple of suggestions we can offer. You can talk with you child’s teacher at the end of the year to find out what they might suggest for Reading and Math.  They have very recent assessment data and will be able to give you some excellent suggestions.  A couple months ago I shared some recommendations to support learning in Reading and Math from home.  If you no longer have that newsletter, stop in the office and I can give you another copy.  We would also recommend getting in touch with your local Library.  Both Scottville and Ludington Libraries offer some excellent summer programs to enhance reading skills during the summer months.

On behalf of the Scottville Elementary Staff, I would like to sincerely thank you for your support both at home and at school.  We’re very blessed to have each of you and your children as part of our Scottville Elementary family!  It’s our hope that you have a wonderful summer filled with many family memories.  We look forward to seeing many of you again this fall.  We wish the best for our families moving onto the Upper Elementary and look forward to meeting our new families coming into Kindergarten.

                                                      Mr. Etchison, Principal

PTC News - Please Join Us!

The Parent Teacher Committee holds a meeting every third Thursday of the month.  We are starting to discuss ideas for the next Walk Run 4 Fun, and we are looking for new ideas for incentive prizes.

At our last meeting several long-time board members confirmed that they will be cycling off in the next year or so as their children move on to middle school. If you’ve been interested in the PTC but just haven’t gotten involved before, now is an excellent opportunity!  We would like to be able to vote the new members in by the end of the school year so that we can help and guide them through the process! Without willing people to take this on, there will be no PTC in the future which in turn means no funding for field trips, playground improvements, holiday shop and other educational opportunities for our MCC students. This is why it is important for us as parents to get involved! So please come see us at our next meeting and if you can't attend you can look us up on Facebook.

We are collecting box tops for our spring submission! We will have a traveling trophy for the class who collects the most in each grade- everyone likes bragging rights so keep collecting!
