Beginning on Monday, March 6th, Scottville Elementary will be holding a Change Drive. Bring your spare change to school. All proceeds will go toward the 2017 Lake Jump.

The charity that will receive the money raised this year will be the Mason County Sports Hall of Fame.

If we raise at least $200 at Scottville Elementary,       Mr. Mount, our Superintendent, will have to jump in           Lake Michigan!

March 2017

A message from the Principal...

As Spring approaches, so does “March is Reading Month”.  We have some exciting reading activities planned this month to celebrate at school.  We’re sending home a calendar of activities you can work on with your child at home to celebrate as well.  You should receive your calendar this week in the Friday folder.  In a couple weeks, MCC will be hosting the annual Family AfFAIR at the High School.  Scottville Elementary will have a booth at the event handing out leveled reading books to our students.  If you get a chance, please stop by and see us on March 18th.  We also have Parent-Teacher Conferences approaching quickly.  Please watch for an opportunity to sign up for a day and time coming home soon.

Along with the newsletter this week we’re sending home a document for parents with a short explanation of each assessment teachers will be going over with parents at conferences. Along with this document, we’ll also pass along some questions parents can ask their child’s teacher. One of the assessments 1st and 2nd grade students take is the NWEA assessment.  We’ve included some suggested parent tips to help prepare children for testing, with language, reading and math.  Some useful websites parents can use to build skills in reading and math are also included. These tips and web resources come from the NWEA parent toolkit that can be accessed on the NWEA website.

Spring break is quickly approaching and many of our families choose to take vacations.  It’s our hope that everyone is able to take a little time to relax and enjoy time together.  If you’re planning on heading south, please bring the spring weather back with you!

PTC News - Please Join Us!

The Parent Teacher Committee holds a meeting every third Thursday of the month.  We are starting to discuss ideas for the next Walk Run 4 Fun, and we are looking for new ideas for incentive prizes. If you would like to share some ideas, please come and discuss them with us on Thursday, February 16th at the Upper Elementary library at 6:00pm. We are collecting box tops for our spring submission! Make sure to send in all your box tops with your child to school in February. We will have a traveling trophy for the class who collects the most in each grade- everyone likes bragging rights so keep collecting!

At our last meeting several long-time board members confirmed that they will be cycling off in the next year or so as their children move on to middle school. If you’ve been interested in the PTC but just haven’t gotten involved before, now is an excellent opportunity!  We would like to be able to vote the new members in by the end of the school year so that we can help and guide them through the process! Without willing people to take this on, there will be no PTC in the future which in turn means no funding for field trips, playground improvements, holiday shop and other educational opportunities for our MCC students. This is why it is important for us as parents to get involved! So please come see us at our next meeting and if you can't attend you can look us up on Facebook.

Thank you and we can’t wait to see you in March.
