Greetings from Scottville Elementary!

Excitement is in the air at Scottville Elementary as the Holidays approach.  We’ve got lots of events planned for the next two months that will provide opportunities for our families to come to school and spend time with their children. Coming up next week, we’ll be hosting our first set of Parent-Teacher Conferences.  If you haven’t signed up for a time to meet with your child’s teacher yet, please call the office so we can get you on the schedule for one of those two days.  This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate your child’s success at school and help them build on any weaknesses they may have.

Toward the end of November, the Kindergarten will be cooking Sharing Stew and the First and Second-grade students will have their Thanksgiving Luncheon.  Each child is encouraged to bring a loved one with them to enjoy these special events.  On December 1st, we have our first “Dads and Donuts” event scheduled at the Upper Elementary.  This is a great opportunity for dads, grandfathers, older brothers, etc...to come in and enjoy a donut, some cider and good company to start off the day. We look forward to seeing you there!

Our PTC will be hosting our Holiday Shoppe again this year.  This event has been a big hit in past years with our students.  Each student will have an opportunity to buy Christmas gifts for their loved ones.  If you’re interested in volunteering to help out, please stop by the office and sign up with Mrs. Shoemaker. We will be holding our annual holiday music programs on December 11th (Kindergarten) and 12th (1st and 2nd Grades).  Please watch for more information to come home
with your child in the weeks to come.

Holiday classroom celebrations will also be scheduled and classroom teachers will let their families know if anything is needed on that day. Each grade level will choose a charity to support in lieu of the children exchanging gifts again this year.

As winter approaches, please make sure your child has dressed appropriately for the weather. It won’t be long before we’ll need hats, gloves, snow pants and boots.  Please remind them of the importance of wearing their warm gear when they go out for recess.

In closing, I would like to thank our parents for their support and involvement in their child’s learning experience.  If you haven’t had an opportunity to come to school and volunteer in your child’s classroom, I’d encourage you to talk to us at conferences.  If your schedule doesn’t allow for time during the school day, talk to your child’s teacher about how you might be able to support learning from
home.

Sincerely,
Mr. Etchison, Principal

PTC News - Please Join Us!

The Parent Teacher Committee holds a meeting every third Thursday of the month.  We are starting to discuss ideas for the next Walk Run 4 Fun, and we are looking for new ideas for incentive prizes.

At our last meeting, several long-time board members confirmed that they will be cycling off in the next year or so as their children move on to middle school. If you’ve been interested in the PTC but just haven’t gotten involved before, now is an excellent opportunity!  We would like to be able to vote the new members in by the end of the school year so that we can help and guide them through the process! Without willing people to take this on, there will be no PTC in the future which in turn means no funding for field trips, playground improvements, holiday shop and other educational opportunities for our MCC students. This is why it is important for us as parents to get involved! So please come see us at our next meeting and if you can't attend you can look us up on Facebook.

We are collecting box tops for our spring submission! We will have a traveling trophy for the class who collects the most in each grade- everyone likes bragging rights so keep collecting!
